About AES — International School Educational Philosophy
Starting at Age 0
American English School, an English unlicensed childcare facility with high academic standards, is extremely popular among families of medical doctors and international business professionals. We provide intensive, all-English education in Fukuoka and Kitakyushu for children beginning at age 0. For families seeking an English kindergarten, English nursery school, international preschool, kindergarten English classes, or English after-school programs, we offer all of these educational programs. In our English immersion education program, students study subjects across a wide range of academic disciplines entirely in English. After enrollment, students can receive a continuous education beginning in early childhood and extending toward admission to overseas universities and university-level studies.
In conventional nursery schools, depending on the children's ages, one childcare worker may be responsible for 20–30 children. At our English childcare facility, however, we maintain a small-class approach with a student-to-teacher ratio of 7:1. We provide individualized instruction tailored to each child's personality and learning abilities, aiming to develop every child's potential to the fullest.

At our school, we develop children's ability to write neatly and legibly from an early age.
In many schools, children are spending increasing amounts of time using electronic devices such as tablets and computers, resulting in fewer opportunities to practice writing with pencils. At American English School, however, we place great importance on handwriting practice.
Our students learn correct letter formation, legibility, and sentence structure, gradually progressing from short sentences to stories and compositions.
We also incorporate writing exercises using both the right and left hands, with the aim of supporting brain development and improving coordination between the two hands.

International Preschool Types —
The Five Levels of International Preschool Education
A kindergarten that teaches English is not the same as a kindergarten where children learn in English. There are significant differences in the educational programs offered by international preschools and kindergartens that teach English. Simply having a foreign teacher does not mean that every school provides the same level of English education.
Level 5 — Exposure to English: Childcare is conducted primarily in Japanese, with English instruction from a foreign teacher for only 1–2 hours or approximately half a day.
Level 4 — Mixed Japanese and English Education: Even when a foreign teacher is present throughout the day, Japanese is frequently used, and children regularly communicate in Japanese.
Level 3 — Play-Based English Immersion: English is used exclusively throughout the day, and children develop English conversation skills through play and activities.
Level 2 — English Education Emphasizing Reading and Writing: English is used exclusively throughout the day. In addition to English conversation, students systematically study reading, spelling, grammar, composition, and other language skills.
Level 1 — Intensive Comprehensive Academic Education: English is used exclusively throughout the day. In addition to everything offered at Level 2, students receive intensive academic education in a wide range of subjects, including mathematics, science, history, geography, and fine arts, all taught in English.
Every family has different educational expectations, and not every family is looking for a Level 1 school like AES. We encourage parents to choose the type of school that best meets their child's individual needs.

Academic Education Taught in English at Our International School

STEM Education — STEM Education at Our English Preschool
STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. At our international school, children study biology, chemistry, physics, and other scientific disciplines entirely in English from an early age. Students also explore a wide range of mathematical subjects in English while being introduced to the fundamentals of technology and engineering. In this way, we provide comprehensive STEM education taught in English.

At our international kindergarten, we place strong emphasis on daily English education and manners training from early childhood. Children are consistently taught to sit properly with good posture, behave calmly during lessons, listen quietly when others are speaking, respect others, and communicate using polite and kind language.
A government official who observed our classes commented that, in decades of experience, they had never seen children who were so polite, respectful of others, and cheerful.
Students also learn about Japanese etiquette, world cultures, and customs in English, while being introduced to basic expressions in German, Spanish, and French.
School Events — Events at Our English Preschool
At AES, we conduct a wide variety of school events entirely in English, including field trips to the zoo and Marine World, parent observation days, Halloween and Christmas parties, academic competitions, presentations, and graduation ceremonies. At the zoo, students learn about zoology, while visits to Marine World introduce them to marine biology, connecting classroom knowledge with real-world experiences.
In spring, children sometimes enjoy playing in the fountains at local parks. During the hot summer months, we schedule park activities in the mornings according to weather conditions, while major events are generally held in the cooler months of autumn and beyond.
Older students also participate in English-language game days lasting six to eight hours. Through games such as Monopoly, they learn English vocabulary and expressions related to business and real estate.
Through these experiential English-learning activities, students develop the ability to think, learn, and communicate in English.
English After-School Care — Fukuoka and Kitakyushu
At AES, we offer English after-school childcare programs for children who are not yet fluent in English, providing instruction that begins with the fundamentals. Our programs are available to families seeking English after-school education in Fukuoka and Kitakyushu.
For graduates of AES's English preschool programs, we offer a separate English Fluency Class designed to further develop their English proficiency. Building upon the strong English foundation established during early childhood, students can continue studying a wide range of academic subjects entirely in English, progressing toward the International College Prep level.
Preschool Fees — Preschool Tuition and Monthly Childcare Fees in Fukuoka and Kitakyushu

For families considering preschool tuition in Fukuoka and Kitakyushu, we also provide information about government childcare subsidies.
Most families are eligible for government childcare subsidies, reducing their actual monthly out-of-pocket expenses to slightly over ¥30,000. Eligibility for these subsidies depends on each family's individual circumstances.
Additional minor expenses of a few hundred yen may occasionally apply.
Families may also purchase educational materials developed exclusively by AES to continue their children's learning at home. These materials are entirely optional and are not required.

College Testing Center — Official DSST Testing Center at Our International School
American English School (AES), located in Ohashi, Fukuoka, is the only testing center in Kyushu listed in the official DSST Test Center search system, where students can take college-level DSST examinations. Our testing center number is 9737.
High school students, as well as academically qualified younger students, have the opportunity to earn college credits before entering university.
DSST examinations are used for college credit recognition at more than 1,800 universities and colleges throughout the United States. Successfully completed examinations may be accepted as credits toward college degree requirements.
